SPA center at Lion Hotel Borovets

Reconstruction and interior project for an existing SPA center placed in ground floor

Gallery

The project treats the reconstruction of an existing SPA space developed on the ground floor level / including storage spaces and technical rooms / with a total area of 325 m2 . The existing SPA center / with 2 identical finnish saunas , a hammam , a fitness hall and 2 massage rooms with an access from the fitness area / wasn’t appropriate to the requirements and the whole vision of the hotel. It had to be fully transformed and the only room , which preserved its original look , was the Hamam.

Our team worked to create a new functional scheme with the appropriate new connections of the SPA spaces and their most suitable way of zoning – sport zone /fitness/ , thermal zone / finnish sauna , steam bath , chromo fun showers, massages’ zone configured in 3 rooms , one of them is a double massage cabinet and a relax zone with individual open cabin lounges and a fireplace, most appropriate for a mountain SPA resort. A place for the new reception was specially arranged by planning a larger place infront of it as the former one was in a narrow corridor infront of the elevators.

The new interesting element in the SPA center’s interior are the niches in the wall of the relax zone as mentioned above they are designed as private lounge cabins . They are unique and are not found in any other SPA in Bulgaria. Designed by Intoarch Studio and realized by Frogistyle furniture production.

SPA center in Boyana District, Sofia – Hotel Berlin

The design’s main scope is refurbishing and reconstruction of an existing SPA area in a hotel in order achieving some better connections between the separate zones and on this basics also creating a new interior’s space vision. The spa is with a total area of 245 m2. Its previous plan didn’t have a good functional scheme and the area for the relax was completely missing . The vision of the whole interior space and the materials used , were unappropriate . As an example : in the thermal zone the floor finishes were not with the antislip type ceramic tiles , which is very important for the wet areas of the SPA in order avoiding accidents. The wall colours used weren’t harmonized and there was no atmosphere in the place as a whole/ this also is one of the very important points in interior and SPA design, as it is the light’s positioning, the material’s choise, aroma, candles, music etc./ Gallery Now it’s fully renewed – new vision, new functional scheme, new procedures’ rooms . The materials used are natural – wood, stone and glass. The floor finishes are now with antislip surfaces and safe. Some of the new additional spaces are VIP apartment equipped with a hot water massage tub , a personal sauna with Himalayan salt , a massage bed and a private bathroom; a herbal sauna ; a finn sauna, a steam aroma bath, an ice fountain, fun showers with chromo therapy, a relax zone with individual open lounge cabins ; new changing rooms with individual shower cabins.

RIU Pravets Resort Golf and SPA

Working design project for a SPA center with indoor pool at the Golf complex and country club Pravets city

Designed and realized on two floor levels with a void for the staircase connecting them upon a total area of 3700 m2. Basically SPA centers are places, where people go for a recreational purpose, well-being or simply to escape from the stressful everyday life. For a better visitors’ comfort, a suitable atmosphere needs to be created , the interior of the ambiance is an important part of this process it is the one with all of its components that we visualize when entering a SPA and also the one that makes us stay and then come back again. Every SPA has its individual look based upon regional traditions and characteristics , depends of where it has been situated – sea , mountain , fields or thermal . Each interior should be unique with a strong sense of warmth.

Gallery

The word SPA origins from Latin- Salus per aqua – meaning health through water. That’s why it was so important for water to take somehow a main part in the interior design - water curtains coming down from the ceiling and going two floor levels below on both sides of the interior staircase in the SPA lobby. In order to mark the water areas and the fountains they have been appropriately illuminated.

The correct functional scheme is vital for the good operation of the SPA – the different sectors are thematically and functionally arranged by starting with the sport zone - pool , fitness, aerobics and kinesis on the upper level . Then follows the cosmetics zone on the same floor level – rooms for male and for female cosmetic procedures, hairdresser salon , medical assistance . On the level bellow we have the thermal zone , which includes finnish sauna , classic steam bath , laconicum , russian bath , turkish bath with hamam for massages , herbal sauna , foot spa, ice room, saltwater flotation pool . There is also the relax zone with loungers. On this floor level we also have exotic massage cabinets like Ayjurveda and Hot volcanic stone massage, also the VIP zone which is more like a private SPA area, with a SPA suite and a small SPA with a finn sauna, meditation, aroma steam bath, fun showers, relax loungers.

For the first time in Bulgaria a cabin for aqua meditation was built / can be seen in the VIP area/. The ice room realized by the Austrian company Thermarium is also something new to be experienced - one of the most fascinating cooling off experiences of all awaits the sophisticated sauna-goer in the snow cabin . What can be more refreshing after a sauna session than to enjoy a very special experience at a tingly -10 °C .

Mineral Bath Bankya

The historical Mineral bath in Bankya city

The two storey massive construction building is an existing old Mineral bath, located in Bankya city near Sofia. The conceptual project is about reconstruction, renovation and socialization of the building.

The Mineral bath’s architectural style is Baroque built in the period between 1907 and finalized in 1910 designed as origin by the German architect Karl Hocheder and at that time was the largest of its kind in the whole Balkans. It’s a cultural monument of Bankya city and it’s one of the city’s main symbols, which obliged us to be precautious making our researches and future design planning of the restoration works which includes facades, rooftop elements details in exterior and interior spaces and the integration of its new functions as partly also a medical SPA

The ground floor in its main part needed a serious restoration work planning – starting from the lobby and going through the two mineral pools in the form of circles, the thermal area which is double as the scheme is symmetrical, with the idea of preserving the authentic look of the bath as well as open it for new modern functions .

The main concept for the lobby is to be transformed into a place for social contacts, with a vitamin fresh bar, which should be well integrated in the typical old bath’s style. All the flooring with its authentic ceramic tiles were to be restored and preserved, as well as the arcs on the ceiling and the wood paneling, the wooden staircases in both wings.

From the main lobby towards the existing male and female blocks, a part of them were to be conserved as they are in their original plan , one of the wings will be plan designed as a VIP zone with more luxurious procedures and treatments while the other one will be opened for public access. The total built up area is around 5000 sq.m.
